Rosters can vary each week for casuals, and casuals don’t have to accept every shift offered. But, weekends are pretty busy and working on Saturday or Sunday or both, is pretty common. PS. Casuals often get paid more to work on weekends too!

No, we’ve made it really simple. Just Signup and create your Job Hunter Profile, then use it to apply for jobs on the Job Board. You don’t even need to have experience in hospitality.

Good question! Rosters can vary each week for casuals, and they can also be set in advance. Sometimes you could be asked to work an extra shift, or swap a shift with another staff member. It’s pretty simple, just Signup and create your Job Hunter Profile.  Use your Profile to apply for jobs on the Job Board. Search the Job Board by location or job role to see what’s available.

All employers pay the legal award wage and hourly rate identified in the relevant WA Award or a National Award. There’s a few different Awards for hospo, but they include the pay rates and penalty rates (higher pay for working on a weekend of a public holiday) for your age, the type of job and the time of day you work.

Some employers pay more than the hourly rate, but they don’t have to. For help finding info about pay rates and which Award applies to you, check out Wageline or Fair Work Ombudsman

If you’re at least 13 years old you can work in a shop, fast food outlet, cafe or restaurant, although if you’re under 15 you’ll need to get written permission from a parent, and you’re not allowed to work before 6am, after 10pm or during school hours.

Hospo is short for hospitality. It’s a pretty common term used by people that work in hospo.

What if I can’t make it to work?2021-11-23T12:58:45+08:00

If you can’t make it to your shift, it’s important to let your manager know as soon as possible. If you know days or weeks in advance, talk to your manager and ask if they can fill your shift with another team member or ask if you can swap shifts with someone. If you’re unwell, you should contact your manager straight away, it’s not advisable to go to work when you’re sick.

You can meet great people and can even work with your friends. There’s lots of variety and different jobs. You learn skills that are needed all over the world, so its easy to travel and work in hospo. Often you’ll get to try the great food in your venue. But remember, your employer can never substitute food and drinks for wages.

These are pretty special occasions in hospo and staff may be asked to work one or more shift during this time. Remember, casuals don’t have to accept every shift offered to them. PS. You usually get paid more to work these shifts!

The legal minimum employment age for most jobs in WA is 15 years old, but the Children and Community Services Act specifies that a child can be 13 years old to be employed in a shop, fast food outlet, cafe or restaurant. Children under 15 are required to have written permission from a parent or guardian and the child isn’t allowed to work before 6am, after 10pm or during school hours.

Yes. The WA State Government has introduced a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for Hospitality, which is identified in Group 2. All employees aged 12+ will be required to show proof of vaccination by the due dates, with the first jab required by 31 December 2021 and the second by 31 January 2022.
